Camp California

imagesThe last day of the CWK school days session will be Friday, June 10th.
What then??, you ask.  Well after the “HOORAY, SCHOOL IS OVER FAMILY DAY PICNIC” on Saturday, June 11th, CAMP CALIFORNIA will begin on Monday, June 13th.

What is Camp California?

Camp California is FUN, FUN, FUN. No uniforms, water days, special event days, neighborhood exploration, field trip(s), enrichment classes, lots of arts and crafts, music, movie days, dancing and more and more and more. If you are a CWKid, you don’t want to miss it.

CWKids who do not attend the summer camp session, but wish to return for the fall school session in August, will be welcomed back with open arms if there is an opening at that time. For economic purposes all vacancies are filled as soon as possible.

Caterpillar to Butterfly

13281572-Butterfly-Metamorphosis-Stock-Vector-butterfly-cartoon-caterpillarIt’s that time of year again. Each Spring, at CWK, we look forward to our big science event. Last year the students participated in a Science Fair. Every student was assigned a science project to exhibit on Science Night.

This year it’s the “Caterpillar to Butterfly” extravaganza. Each student will adopt a tiny baby caterpillar (real…not virtual) and create a butterfly habitat at home. The whole family will be able to witness the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. It’s amazing. When the transformation is complete the butterfly within the habitat will return to school for release.

Black History Poster Project

Our Black History Month Poster project is a CWK tradition. It is a family project giving parents, grandparents and other family members the opportunity to work and learn along with their CWKid.  The poster will be due on Tuesday, February 16th.
Check out these posters from previous years.IMG_2942 IMG_2930

CWK Valentine Celebration

il_340x270.705004112_j702Valentine’s Day is always a big celebration occasion for the CWKids. Since it falls on the weekend this year, the big party will be held on Friday, February 12th.
Receiving treats from classmates is always the highlight of the celebration. When selecting what treat your child will bring, use your imagination. Although candy is always the immediate thought and the easiest solution, it is not always the best choice. Some better choices are fruit, fruit snacks, pencils, erasers, small party favors…you can probably think of a few things on your own.

Please remember, CWK is a NO NUTS facility.

The Younger, The Better

Some of the most important things that children can learn and use for success throughout their lives are GOOD MANNERS. Whether you will admit it or not, little ones without age appropriate manners are nerve wracking and annoying and can be embarrassing to parents and others. At home, at restaurants, public gatherings…whatever. So, it is never too early. Start now.

Why Yoga?

Because yoga…

Enhances Physical Flexibility: Yoga promotes physical strength because kids learn to use all of their muscles in new ways. Whether a pose is done standing, sitting, or lying down, each one can challenge various muscle groups while helping a child become aware of his body and how it efficiently functions.

Refines Balance and Coordination: Balance is a key element of yoga.

Develops Focus and Concentration: The act of practicing poses encourages children to clear their mind, become calm and focus on the effort.

Boosts Self-Esteem and Confidence: Yoga teaches children to persevere, be patient, and work toward their goals.

Strengthens the Mind-Body Connection: Yoga helps kids achieve a sound mind in a sound body by exercising the physical body and calming the mind.

So the real question is…Why not Yoga?

CWK Novemberfest Celebrates Fall

imagesThe annual CWK NOVEMBERFEST is the school’s biggest and best Fundraiser. It’s a day packed with fun, food, music, games and prizes. There’s also an exciting raffle with lots of great stuff to win. I’m sure you can imagine how much work it will take to pull off this colossal event. The NOVEMBERFEST needs YOU to make all of the planned events happen.

Each class will be responsible to prepare and manage a game or craft booth. Get more info regarding this from teachers next week.

There will be a basket in the school lobby to collect items for our basket raffle. On Friday look for the “Pumpkin Tree” in the school lobby and pick a pumpkin. Each pumpkin will have an item written on it. Please bring your item to school by October 23rd and place it in the basket. Maybe you have an empty basket we can use. If so, we welcome that donation also.

Other welcome donations are gift cards, movie tickets, small game prizes, etc. Does anyone do face painting?

Show and Tell Day

show and tell

Although CWK has a No Toys From Home policy, every first Friday of the month, on Show and Tell Day the CWKids may bring a toy or other favorite object to school to share with classmates.

Show and Tell Day is the only day that a toy may be brought from home. The children will leave the toy in their cubby until Show and Tell time. The purpose of Show and Tell is to give the children the opportunity to share something special about them with their friends. It is also a time when they can practice speaking to a small group.

At Show and Tell time, the CWKids will take turns showing their items and telling their classmates about it. When done, each child will place the item on a designated display table for classmates to observe and handle after the Show and Tell exhibition. This is always a very popular and fun activity.

Check the school calendar for other activity and event information.

The We Love Animals Non-Field Trip

The STAR ECO Station is an environmental science museum, an exotic wildlife rescue center, and a haven for endangered exotic animals. It is located in Culver City, very near California Wiz Kids. So, instead of doing a field trip to visit the animals, we have planned a day when the animals will visit CWK.  Sounds exciting, right?

The exhibition will take place on Friday, July 26th at the North Campus thus enabling our Toddler House students to participate. A donation of $10.00 per student is required to participate. (Compare that to the $25.00 average for an “away from campus” field trip.)

Please make payment by Wednesday, July 24th.

The Low-Down About Field Trips

CWK field trip destinations are chosen to enhance our school program and to provide a diverse and interesting school experience for our students. In order to make the trips successful it is necessary to have total student participation. Most venues require a significant nonrefundable deposit in order to hold a date  for the trip. The chartered bus fee is the same whether there are 5 children or 55. All teachers must be present for the excursion in order to offer appropriate supervision while away from campus. Therefore, the school is closed to children not participating in the field trip. In the past year it has been necessary to cancel trips due to inadequate participation or delayed registration. This is very disappointing to children who have looked forward to the excitement of riding the bus to an unknown adventure.

Waiting for the last moment to commit will ultimately cause cancellation.
